Batesmotel
My daughters bird but lived with us for about 10 years. Very affectionate and super smart. Free flighted around the house. She knew several commands. You could say Go ToYour Room and she would fly straight to her cage for the night. I will miss her but my daughter is shattered. She has a degree in Wildlife Management, was a zookeeper and a vet tech for exotic animals. Animals are her life.

Huaco Kid
A friend had cockatiels. They were VERY smart and mischievous and would do things they thought were funny. You could be studying doing homework for hours and they would act like clowns, even rolling around, trying to get your attention. If you looked away for a minute to grab something, you'd turn back around and the bird and your pen were gone. You'd look around and find him sitting on the couch-back with his head cocked, looking at you. He had hidden the pen. 2
minderasr
A wise person (on another forum) once said, "outliving our pets is the price we pay for the unconditional love they give us". So true. Sorry for your loss. 3
janice6
Once it gets manageable, we have the opportunity to adopt another and give them all the love left over from the previous family member. My daughter just got a new dog, it's a rescue like ours. She says "she is wonderful!". It's amazing how a member of the animal kingdom can allow us to show our love. Pets are wonderful. 5

We generally outlive dogs. The thing about some species of birds is they stand a good chance of outliving us. And, to the original poster, I am sorry for your loss my friend....
