minervadoe
7 hours ago, Walt Longmire said: A Swede and a Finn were looking at a tall tree. The Finn said, "I wonder how tall it is." The Swede used his ax to fell the large tree and then measured it. "A hundred and twelve feet." The Finn the says, "I wanted to know how tall it is, not how long it is." A couple of Italians (let's call them Mario and Luigi) are driving back toward their home town in their pickup truck. They see a fruit stand selling watermelons for 19 cents a pound. Luigi says, "Hey Mario. Let's buy some of those watermelons. Back home they sell for a dollar a pound." So they load up the truck and take them home and sell them for 19 cents a pound. This becomes their weekly routine. Then, one day they add up their funds and realize that they haven't made any money. Luigi concludes, "We need a bigger truck!" GT4494
I'd hate to explain to the Mom that her son was run over and killed by a Prius.
Batesmotel
Utah just did a sting operation to get more information on who is doing this and where everything is going. Operation Urban Mining. The number of converters stolen did not add up with the number sold for recycle. They found Malaysian nationals were stealing them and processing just the guts for export as scrap metal. Crushing it and shipping it in barrels. This was a very complex and organized operation. Basically a chop shop just for converters.

railfancwb
I can’t read the thread title without mentally picturing someone sliding under a car to steal the converter while the driver is waiting for the light to change.
Duluth
A wise man once told me, nothing ever good happens under a car after midnight. Well I just made that up; but I might quote it. 1

Thump thump. Back up to see what happened. Thump thump. Oh look, a guy stealing catalytic convertors. Drive off. Thump thump.
Fog
Graduates of Meth University do some methed up stuff. Like try to pull down power lines to scrap by throwing a rope over them. One end tied to their crapped out beater Chevy LUV. In the rain. We found a dead tweaker and a burning truck. With what was left of the rope laying all over the place. 1
