"Navy spokesman Joe Overton told Coffee or Die that the areas provide an environment that aids military training.

“This area provides a unique environment of cold water, extreme tidal changes, multi-variant currents, low visibility, complex underwater terrain, climate, and rigorous land terrain, which provides an advanced training environment,” Overton said."

They should give Alaska a try. We have some of the largest and fastest moving tidal changes in the world. Oh, and cold water. Terrain? Yeah, we got that too.

Slightly off topic, but getting submerged in salt water can't be good for a rifle. I hope they thoroughly clean those things!

Also, what is stopping the Navy Seals from just telling the state of Washington to kiss their ass. A local or state government doesn't have any authority over the U.S. Military.

But the military has no authority over State Parks. Use is with permission.

Oddly though, the Navy was able to take 5 acres of ocean front land with a house on it from my family back in the late 50's in order to build more Navy housing. We were forced to sell, or they would condemn it and get it for free. *******.
