Batesmotel
My plasma TV is showing its age. I will replace it with a 4K of some sort. But in looking at them they all seem too realistic or sharp. I don’t know need to see Hi-Def nose hairs just because the technology is there. they lose the cinematic feel. More like the technical photos I used to do for work. I will mostly be using it for watching DVD and Blu-ray Discs. Do you get used to the sharpness? Thanks
Maser
Maybe it's just my eyes, but to me the only difference between 1080p and 4k is one is darker than the other.

Depends on the source. I’ve seen good DVDs and Blu-Ray discs that are worlds apart from broadcast TV. 4K TVs let me see incredible detail. Background that is so sharp and detailed it is distracting. Facial details that show every pore and hair. Even in the 40s they would use soft focus filters to soften faces of stars. Is it too much? Do people get used to it? 1
LostinTexas
Can't really say. 4K is great for some things and is still pretty rare. 1080P is still kind of sparse, at least the recorded and redistributed in 1080P. I'm still amazed at that, and find myself nit picking the screen quality of the "upgraded" broadcasts. We never knew we were looking at such blurred images in the old days, but then the TV's weren't as big as a sheet of plywood. I see my local news ladies wrinkles. It seems that with the resolution the wrinkles are exaggerated, like the lighting in the studio results in skin tones and dark black shadow. this makes the wrinkles exaggerated and is very unappealing.

gwalchmai
I was at the costco the other day and I looked at TVs. They have 85" 4K panels for a couple grand. Mrs. G said our 55" is too big for our viewing area, but dang. And yes, I want to see the newsbabes' pores! 1

The space was pretty small, but comfortable for about 20 people. The TV was 12 feet from the back wall and couch. You had to move your head to watch all the way across it. They say about 8 inches per foot from the screen. My living room would require an 90+ inch screen, and that is just too big. I get they want to sell TV's but DAYUM. Our 55 is just fine for us, and much bigger wouldn't be very practical.
Batesmotel
My plasma is a 72 inch. I have room for an 85. The whole room is set up as a movie and music room. I just wish I could tone down the resolution if I wanted.
Hook
I got a 65 in my living room not 4k. I'm on dish and some channels have a way nicer picture than others. Quality of picture with blue ray very as well. I dont think dish even broadcasts in 4k. I could be wrong. When i had cable i asked the cable guy why the picture on my tv wasnt as clear as it was at the store his response was we only broadcast on 780.
LostinTexas
I have the stick, and Blue Ray (not 4K) plugged into the 1080 ports on the TV. They are not as good quality picture in the 4K port. Go figure. I guess the super high resolution is needed to make that one work properly. It took some research. For some reason they don't seem to freely divulge that info on which is which. I guess because there is only one 4k and three 1080, at least on my older (5 year) set. There is a 17 year old 1080p set in the she room that is very good. It lived it's live in the living room until the new set came in.

Batesmotel
Chatting with some guys I know about this took a disturbing turn. One said, no matter what you do, never, ever no matter what, do not watch 4K Porn. I had no intention to. Some things are better left alone. 1

Huaco Kid
I'm still using a 15" pc monitor. Sometimes, I flip on the TV at the hotel, and Jeeze Louise!, no, they went too far. I don't like it. Don't need it.
