Dog Sitting/House Sitting...What's it Worth?

My 21 year old daughter works at a company that provides dog daycare and overnight boarding. It happens a friend of mine uses their services as he and his girlfriend travel a bit. They have two dogs. They live less that a mile away from where my daughter lives. They are interested in having my daughter stay at their house and taking care of their dogs.

What would you pay for that service per day?

My kids do for me for “Free”.

They make it a mini vacation at my house. Run the heat a lot higher than I do. Eat all my food. Raid my food storage. Pilfer my petty cash. Use my credit card to buy my dogs toys and treats. Use my card to buy gas and groceries. Etc. So, damn expensive. But my dogs love them.

way too little information.

Are we talking rural Alabama, or Washington DC?

I mean to say, there isn't really much context here for how to price it.  Some places that's a $10 a day gig to visit for an hour twice a day, feed the dogs, let them run around outside, and leave.  Other places it's a couple hundred for the same thing.

It's not like she won't still have to pay rent/mortgage on wherever she's currently living at, and a few days vs a few months is also a big difference.

Then again, house sitting can get kind of weird sometimes.  My buddy and his girlfriend were asked to housesit a place for 6 or more months.  A few weeks in, they caught the neighbor walking around in the backyard, looking in the windows and such.  Turns out the house owner had someone else keeping an eye on them as they were keeping an eye on the house.  They moved out as soon as they learned of this.

These days there are a lot of people with security cameras hidden inside the house, connected so they can be checked over the internet from anywhere in the world.  Next thing you know that video of her walking around half dressed out of the shower is now uploaded to some adult only websites.

Unless they are good friends in real life, and not just through a business, then house sitting just doesn't seem worth the risks.

Timely topic. Since Friday Mrs. G has been petsitting for ten (10) cats for some of our friends in Berkeley Lake (N. ATL suburb). We used to live nearby so she's doing it as a getaway from the grouch and visit old friends. Costs? She's not charging, but in this case I'd pay hots & cot plus $25 - $50 a day. These cats are "extended family members" and get along together, which makes it easier.

In S.FL when we (used to ) go on a cruise, boarding our 2 (10# each) at a really nice place was $100 a day !

We checked out a lot of places, some just kept them in cages for most of the time,.....no way , this had actual 6 x 8' "rooms ... the dogs were out for 3 hours

morning and afternoon in a big play area..... and you could watch them on TV.

But,,,,looks like cruising is out for a long time
