Failure To Stop - Yikes

Don't know if anyone here has seen this NSFW video - a Montgomery County MD Sheriff's Deputy having to engage an apparently crazed individual at close range.  Kills him DRT, but after 12 hits, he's still advancing.  Language and graphic violence, including the expiration of the offender.  It's disturbing.

The individual had caused several auto accidents and accosted/aggressed the other drivers before the arrival of the deputy.  This could have happened to anyone, in any town, at any time.

Useful lessons here:  Move laterally.  Seek cover.  Carry a real gun, not a mouse gun.  Don't expect your sidearm to provide an instant stop.  Even after multiple hits, an aggressor can still be very dangerous to you.  He may be dead on his feet while he kills you.  If center-mass hits aren't getting the job done, you might want to consider shifting your aim to head and or pelvis right away.   Small capacity magazines may not cut it. Five or six rounds in a revolver definitely may not cut it.   And any idiot who argues for mandated ten-round magazine limits needs to be shown a copy of this video.

Postmortem tox screen was negative for drugs and alcohol.

Happy New Year, and stay safe out there!

It's easy for the armchair warriors out there to try and educate people on what to do in a situation like that, but guess what?  Reality doesn't have a pause button for you to review your notes.  The self defense knowledge we know from classes or literature can only give us a rudimentary sense of what to do because no self defense situations are the same.  You gotta improvise on the fly and in a matter of milliseconds.  This post isn't a shot at the OP, but rather just saying in general reality is very different.

I don't disagree in that situations like this unfold very quickly, and the victim is unlikely to be able to do any creative thinking while in progress.  That is why it is important to review cases like this when they are available and well documented, so as to be able to extract the lessons and to incorporate them into both training and mindset.  Lots of people shoot slow fire at fixed targets and think they have trained and prepared.  They carry marginal guns with low capacity in mediocre calibers and think that they are well armed.  IMHO, neither is correct.

The value of carefully considering cases like this one is realized when one internalizes the lessons and puts them into regular practice.  Hence my bringing it to TBS's attention.

No offense taken.

Tacticool People train to get off the X, Lateral movement and adding distance from the Threat are useful exercises because of threats like this.

even hitting Vitals Multiple times doesn't always stop a threat during an Adrenaline dump like that and not having proper Distance to Allow the expansion of the Round to do its work.

i`d like to see a shot map and breakdown of Vital hits and Ammo Type used.

i`d also very much like if that report was read aloud by the Video's Narrator.

From the final investigation report:  "Despite attempts to save his life, XXXXXXX was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An autopsy was conducted on February 7, 2021 by Assistant Medical Examiner Dr. Carol Allan,
M.D. The autopsy revealed that XXXXXXX suffered thirteen (13) gunshot wounds. Ten (10) of the
wounds were located in the chest area and the remaining three (3) were located in the right
arm. It should be noted the evidence shows that Deputy XXXXXX fired twelve (12) shots at
XXXXXXX. However, the autopsy report does list one of the gunshot wounds as being “atypical.”
Furthermore, the toxicology on XXXXXXX came back negative for the presence of drugs or
alcohol."

Twelve shots, twelve hits.  Gotta give the Deputy that.  It's way above the national average.
