Weren't always good and meaningful progress has been made in many areas. In cars, for instance: You may prefer the old school style, my feelings on old cars is certainly well-documented, but safety, longevity, economy and dependability of cars today are light-years ahead of decades past.

What else do you think is better today, if anything? If you don't anything anything is better today, feel free to crap on some new thing you don't like. It's New Year's Eve. Go crazy.

Firearms, cartridges, and bullet tech has come a long way from the old days of 158 gr. round nose from a 5 or 6 shot .38. special.

In Sergeant York, they all took a shot,  dug the ball out of the tree,  and recasted it for the next guy.

Right? Closest 3 guns to me that aren't a 12 gauge, are a 10mm, .458 SOCOM, and a .300 Blackout.

Much respect for the classics, but this new **** is awesome.

I remember my grandmother letting us know that her life went from the horse-and-buggy, to Man on the moon.

Our lifetime has moved much faster.

It will keep moving even faster.

Until we push ourselves back into the iron age.

In JROTC, The Major explained it as every generation gets more destructive. Went from widespread muskets and Napoleonic formations to quality rifles, machine guns, primitive submarines, and useful airships in a single generation. Not to mention railroads.

Tanks, aircraft, near instant worldwide communication, and chemical warfare next.

Then came the nukes. There aren't many left who used one in anger. So maybe Major was wrong....

Happy New Year y'all! :599c64bfb50b0_wavey1:

When she was, I don't know,  I was little,  we gave her a high-tech thing you put in your purse.  It was as big as a transistor radio.

And the switch hooked to your wrist with a string,  so when the thugs stole your purse, it would scream at (really) 50,000 dbm.  Like,  really, too loud.

We don't know if she ever used it.

A pistol is really loud.

The ways we communicate with the rest of the world nowadays is amazing.  I remember in 1st and 2nd grades we had pen pals from other states.  At the time we thought it was so cool.  We had no clue what the future of communication would bring us.

So whenever she came to visit,  we would play with the-box-that-was-way-too-screaming-loud.

I don't know why they let Grandma live in a place (Buffalo),  where getting your purse stolen was a normal thing.  But, as long as your purse was screaming, at 20,000dbm,  it was safe,  because Grandma would only have to chase the teenager for a mile, or two,  break his knee,  and get her purse back.

I've never been near a tank,  but if I ever find an abandoned one,  given enough batteries,  I'll probably get it started.

Let me play with the controls, for a minute, and I'll probably drive it.

If they left one in the chamber, well,  that could be either good or bad.
