Their society is quite unforgiving of low scholastic performance. I once read about how the school room was like nails in a board and the nail that "stuck out" was hammered down so no one was "different". But you may know all about that already........................

But you may know all about that already........................ I can’t speak about Chinese schools but the Vietnamese schools of the 1970s didn’t have GPAs or alphabetical grades. We had class rankings from No. 1 down to the bottom. Theoretically one can run a GPA of A- and still ended up at the bottom of the class. I’ve always ranked between 1 and 3. One time my class ranking dropped to 5 and I thought my world ended. I was scared to come home with my GPA and showed my failure to my mom. Lol. That was in a class class f thirty-something students. 3
railfancwb
Studying, learning, making good grades is a better path to success than the opposite. 4
Mrs.Cicero
Speaking strictly about this mom and kid, I don't have a problem with what she did. Maybe the kid is too young to remember, maybe not. If the kid forgets, I expect if he asked to see it again, she'd take him again. I have always appreciated getting to see something I would later be required to do, before I had to do it. If I've seen the place , people, and the procedure, the only thing left for me to think about is my own performance. It reduces the distraction of thoughts/questions about the environment and the process. For example, my youngest is about to take her road test for her license... and I've had her use the on/off ramps where the highway portion is done, and I'll have her drive around the neighborhood where the normal road portion is conducted, before she has to take the test - one less distraction to her of driving someplace she's never driven before.
