While the weather is bad right now, this is next summers water supply.

"Up to 8 feet of snow was predicted at the highest elevations of the Sierra.

Before Sunday, 20 inches of snow already had fallen at Homewood on Lake Tahoe’s west shore. About a foot was reported at Northstar near Truckee, California, and 10 inches at the Mount Rose ski resort on the southwest edge of Reno.

The continuing storms were welcomed in parched California, where the Sierra snowpack had been at dangerously low levels after weeks for dry weather. But the state Department of Water Resources reported on Christmas Eve that the snowpack was between 114 percent and 137 percent of normal across the range with more snow expected."

It’s crazy how much snow can fall in the Sierras. There is a UC Berkeley lab, near Donner Pass that has received 16 feet of snow in December.

Donner Pass…..Donner Party…. wow, now there’s a story of misfortune for you

Think the Sierra snow fall is crazy check out Mt. Rainier.  The Paradise area at Mount Rainier (elevation of 5,400 feet) is known for its snowfall. Paradise once held the world record for measured snowfall in single year in 1971-1972: 1,122 inches (93.5 feet/28.5 meters). A new low snowfall record for Paradise was set in 2014-2015 with 266 inches (22.2 feet/6.7 meters), previously set in 1939-1940.

Both caused by global warming.

When snow is dumped by the foot, that is something that scares me, and it makes me respect nature. And that goes for rain too, when it’s dumped by the foot, something bad is going to happen soon.

10 (?) years ago,  we got 2' of lake-effect.

We were in Erie (hockey tournament),  from whence the effect came from.  They, +20 miles, had zero snow.

The closer we got to home,  the more there was.  2'.

But, our daughter and sil was feeding the dog,  so they dug a spot at the top of the driveway, big enough to park the cars.  So we didn't care.

But I had to be at work on Monday.  My car was at the bottom, long, driveway.  I said, "Fck."

I actually measured my car with arms-wide,  and made bootprints for the bobsled chute I was about to dig.

I got about 5' into it (a 50 yard driveway),  when this huge, bulking, rusted, jacked-up, pick up truck of hollering high-schools kids, slammed on their brakes,  slid uphill,  backed up,  and rolled down his window,  and yelled, "$70!!"

I wave him on.

Took  five minutes.

Tipped them.

I have no idea why, but I prefer to clear my driveway after midnight. We had a few inches that wasn't worthy of firing up the snowblower, so I was doing it with a shovel.

A next-door neighbor kid came home very late and parked his car in the snow filled driveway at his house and walked over to me.  He asked if he could help me shovel.  I told him I sincerely appreciated his offer, but I was ok, and this was the only exercise I did.

He then said that he would come over in the morning and clear the pile from the snowplow doing the street, for me.  I again thanked him but assured him I had a monster snowblower that would do it in a very short time.

I should be ashamed to admit that this was the best act of kindness I had experienced in a long time, and I really appreciated it.  They had just moved in, and we didn't even know them yet.

One time,  in Raleigh,  we got 2+' overnight.  Unheard of,  I think.

So...

I opened the door to this winter-wonderland,  and looked a Jagr,  our psycho-berserk-fastest-dog-in-the-world-evar dog, and let him loose.  In 2' of snow.  He had never even seen snow.  What's he gonna do?

fckr took off like a missile.

At first,  he bounced like a reindeer,  and then figured he was fast enough to run right on top of it.   At 400mph.

Right up the street to a front-porch party.  We didn't know, since everyone was off work,  there were 100 front-porch partys going on.

At first some girls screamed,  at a non-snow dog running at them, with glee in his face,  and then there was a huge "CHEER!" as Jagr danced, and wiggled, all around.

Then he ran downhill,  at 400mph,  disappeared over the cleft.  We heard one party,  two, three go "WHOOOOO!",  as Jagr made himself know.

Then he ran into the busy road,  which was ok, because it was snowed off,  and going up the next street behind us.  "WHOOOOO!"  "WHOOOOO!"  "WHOOOOO!",  we could hear him going uphill.

Stupid fkr made the rounds, like, three times,  before he came back.
