Last Good Christmas Song

Jingle Hells Bells came out in 1993. How have I never heard it before now?

Anyway, that was NOT the last good Christmas song. What is your choice for the last real classic of a Christmas song? FWIW, it is worth a frogmarch to the exit door if any of you say 'Do They Know It's Christmas'.

For my part, it's not my favorite Christmas song, but it was the last decent one made that comes to mind.

For extra points, your favorite Christmas song.

She always creeped me out a little, as a kid. It was like watching a skeleton sing.

I have yet to understand why so many of those in the entertainment industry self-destruct and die well before their time.

I played in a bunch of bands and never had the urge to become a heroin addict or drink a fifth of Jack Daniels bourbon every night, nor did my band mates.

But, we were only doing it part time to pay for our real goals in life and because we enjoyed it.

I think that really creative people are inherently more unstable than the average person and are more prone to spin off the track. Artistic expression is often a compulsion. A safety valve releasing an excess of something bottled up inside someone. I haven't met a lot of truly creative types that were content, well-adjusted people.

Two Christmas songs that I really hate are John Lennon's So This Is Christmas and Geldof's Do They Know It's Christmas.

Neither are about peace on Earth, good will toward men or a Christian celebration.

They are hippie Marxist protest songs reminding America's working and middle class that we're all racist and greedy.  :miff:

I would ask the saintly that participated in Band Aid in 1984, why are there still poor people in Africa 40 year later?

Maybe gathering some wealthy British popular music entertainers to make an MTV video didn't solve the problem.

Is that somehow inherent in their psychological makeup or do they perhaps fall prey to behaving like they believe creative people are supposed to behave?

Is it self-delusion to conform to an artificial  lifestyle?

Live fast, die young, leave a good-looking corpse?

We must also consider that many, many folk were and are just as creative, achieved the same success, and remained pretty stable.
