LostinTexas
I keep getting update requests for W11. I don't want to be the guinea pig. W10 is solid, and despite the occasional operator error, it seems to be plenty good. W10 was supposed to be the end of the OS remakes. I never really believed that, but many of the versions have been anywhere between great and OMG. We are in the OMG area. 7 was solid, 8 was a hot mess, 8.1 was surprisingly stable and agile, but resembles a cell phone and so do the newer ones, and 10 has been solid, so time for MS to crate a giant 💩. Not excited about it, but looking for any users. Probably too soon.

I just had to upgrade thanks to my old unit failing to charge, and physically falling apart. I've had this one in my possession for about 6 weeks total, HP has had it for three months. Not happy with what I got back from them, and made sure they know it. It is much better than what I sent though, so will have to be acceptable until I decide to drop coin on another. Next one will not be a HP. It is working now, so messing with the OS is out of the question for me.
jmohme
I first tried Windows at version 1.0,somethng. All I really remember about it was that it was cute and I had to write Program Information Files (PIFs) for any application that I wanted to run while running this crude interface. I continue on all the way to Windows 7 before I gave Microsoft the old heave ho. The imediate savings in Tylanol and antacid alone made the change worthwhile. Maybe Microsoft finally got it right Windows 11, but I really don't give a ****. The should have their crap together decades ago.

I'm still running windows 7 but I don't do any gaming and I limit my internet surfing to this forum and a couple of others like RealClearPoliics but no Twitter, Facebook, or any of that jive but I do like youtube.
LostinTexas
Just took the leap to 11. I have to say, I'm not loving it. Keyboard commands are different, and the start menu, it isn't all that familiar. It seems Classic shell is a thing of the past. I really liked it. It's crisp and works. It will take time to learn. I have ten days to go back.
minderasr
Not yet. I'm hoping to upgrade my old laptop with my tax refund. I'm sure the new one will come with Win11. Lots of YouTube videos showing how to make improvements to Win11.

Been poking the bear and put most of the stuff back like it was. A lot of it is aimed at the early release. Of course removing bloat is always a good thing, just be sure you don't use it somehow. I have run in to that. Biggest thing is shutting off all the garbage with Edge. You know it is prying when MS won't even let you uninstall or disable it. Then we have dealt with it in 10, so nothing really new. All my old settings transferred with the upgrade, so that made it easier, not having to reinvent the wheel. Most of those "What to do first with Windows 10" were pretty good and informative. So far so good. Cheers.
minderasr
One piece of software I would highly recommend, O&O Shutup10++ (also works on Win11). https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10
minderasr
I forgot to mention. I got fairly aggressive with the settings in O&O Shutup10 and had to do a bit of troubleshooting to correct issues I ran into. But it wasn't that difficult.

Neat program, but I was thinking some of that will end up breaking some sites, maybe a lot of them. Giving it a try. It is easily fixable as long as you don't go Full Retard, and can figure out what you did to mess up what you want to undo. I have a lot of that turned off in my browsers anyway, but some is hidden pretty well, so it does seem to have some merit,. FWIW, so far 11 seems like a big do over not so much. The editing and gaming are elevated, but I don't do either. Probably some other things I don't frequent as well.
minderasr
I started out with just the recommended settings. Zero issues. But eventually applied all settings then began troubleshooting. If you use Edge, you'll find the message "managed by your organization" under settings. Not a big deal for me as I use Firefox and Brave exclusively. And as I said, it wasn't too difficult to find which settings I wanted to relax, although there was some trial and error involved. Also, there is an option to return to default settings if you break something or decide OOSU10 is not for you.
minderasr
I forgot to mention, there is an option to back up your OOSU10 configuration. This makes it a lot easier to restore your settings if you ever reformat or have multiple computers. I use it with my desktop and laptop.
