Infrastructure Bill Would Mandate Alcohol Monitors for All New Cars

This reminds me of gun control, punish everyone because of a few.

"The more than $1 trillion infrastructure package would require that alcohol monitors be installed in all new cars.

Within the 2,700-page proposal is a section that mandates that new vehicles have “a system that … passively and accurately detect[s] whether the blood alcohol concentration of a driver of a motor vehicle is equal to or greater than the blood alcohol concentration” of 0.08, which is generally the limit to drive in most states.

If the driver has a higher than 0.08 blood alcohol concentration, the car’s system would “prevent or limit motor vehicle operation.” It isn’t clear whether the detection system would have to be a breathalyzer, which requires a driver to blow into a device, or something else."

Wonder how much that would add to the cost of a new car?

So my drunk arse buddy sits in my truck.  He needs a ride home.   The woman done left him and he's tied it on in a legendary way.

Now my car won't start because he's drunker than a Russian in Berlin, May of 1945 (and that is monumentally drunk).

So it's saturday night and I roll up on the scene and need to transport two drunk as can be college students off to the local klink because they were mooning and flashing their boobs with zero cares given...and because the coeds are blasted beyond all probability....my patrol car won't start?

Just sayin....I've been on that call.

Good thing I have a degree in both computer science and electronic engineering. I'll have that disabled / hacked or removed within a couple hours, much like I removed all OnStar GSM cell network / WiFi / GPS / Bluetooth cards and modules in all my cars.

I don't drink. But I will for sure not blow my car because some left wing dictator thinks he can push whatever he wants, let alone in an infrastructure bill that has NOTHING to do with the safety of traffic.

I see another career path opening for you.

Why is there always legislation to protect us from ourselves, but nothing to protect us from the legislators

So, I blow up a plastic bag before I get drunk and then use it to get my car started?  How long until you can buy a device that defeats your car's breathalizer?

Nanny state
Nanny state is a term of British origin that conveys a view that a government or its policies are overprotective or interfering unduly with personal choice. The term "nanny state" likens government to the role that a nanny has in child rearing.
