Chernobyl's Nuclear Fuel Is Smouldering Again

Most of this video's still pic content is from the HBO miniseries on Chernobyl, which I really enjoyed. Anyway, this doesn't sound like an oh-****! situation, but it is still a little disturbing. Some mistakes just won't let you go.

There is a whole industry around chernobyl that exists to exploit the risk. If it wasn't in danger of blowing up or burning again they would run out of money. 

I think they should just leave it the heck alone, accept that it won't be cleaned up in their lifetime. Let some universities research it if they can get private money. Otherwise just have patience.

We have already learned that as bad a mishap as it was the damage and loss of life was much lower than predicted. Sure there are wild claims of thousands dead that has been covered up, but any close look at the evidence doesn't support that.

The contamination is subsiding far faster than expected, it's effects on the environment are far less than expected. People are far more resilient than expected.

Russia has other sites that make make that whole disaster seem clean and worry free, in comparison to those other site chernobyl is not even a concern.

But, stupidly, we are standing around sucking our thumbs while china forges ahead making the worst contamination in russia look like a practice run.

Okay, let's take a country where the infrastructure and government are questionable to say the least. The secret federal agents step in and take a massive amount of booze without explanation. There is no record of where the booze went. Does anyone else smell corruption??? Those agents are probably getting drunk as we speak.
