Rocking and Rolling last night. 8.1 Earthquake

Lasted 2 minutes. Centered 200 miles away. Felt rolling waves of earth moving, but nothing drastic this far away. Things were swaying in my house and my indoor chimes that let me know when these things are happening, were ringing. Doors were rattling. There was a tsunami warning, but didn't happen thankfully. It was much less dramatic than the 7.3 and 7.4 we experienced recently that were located much closer.

Glad all’s well

i was awoken at 2am to tornado sirens the sound of straight line winds and lightning and everyone’s dogs barking at the cell phone alerts

damn nature ruining my sleep

Yeah we got cell phone alerts also. For the possible tsunami. You can tell it's a big quake at a distance when in just keeps rolling for a couple minutes. Not at all like the violent shakers we had when we were hit with the 7.4 and 7.3 that were closer a couple years ago.

Glad you are OK and hope it was in a non populated area. That is a big un. None of those magnitudes mentions should be taken lightly.

Glad you guys are all OK, and that the big wave didn't come. 

All 6 times I've been to Alaska, I've missed a quake by a week, either before or after. I was really hoping for one when I was in California recently, but no joy.

I have experienced some big ones close by. Lots of shaking. Stuff hitting the floor. Not fun. This one was far enough away to not be terrifying. Probably was for those few that live in the area though. Largest quake on the continent in the past 50 years.
