The real issue is that Amazon will kill even more businesses and chains with this move. Say good bye to Publix, Target, etc. And once they have a semi monopoly they can price gauge the **** out of you and the manufacturers because they all have no other place to go.

If you have a couple working brain cells left, you will not grocery shop with Amazon, and limit your purchases on amazon.com as well, while supporting independent online shops from other chains and especially online shops from small businesses.

We sold out our working middle class to China. If we now sell out to Amazon, we will be done.

Has anyone else read the any of the Stainless Steel Rat series? They mention peopleless stores and fast food joints.

Yep, read them all. I enjoy Harry Harrison’s work.

I guess they're leveraging their Whole Foods distribution network.

I didn't get how they know what your account is.  So, I did a thirteen second Intrawebs search.

Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh: How the 'Just walk out' tech works

Quote

The store works with an Amazon Go app for iOS or Android: You enter, take the products you want and, thanks to the app, just leave again. The app is linked to your Amazon account for billing.

Quote

These stores work by using the same types of technologies found in self-driving cars, such as computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning.

This technology can detect when products are taken or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in your virtual cart. When you leave the store with your goods, your Amazon account is charged and you are sent a receipt.

Quote

To get started, you need an Amazon account, a supported smartphone, and the free app. You scan the app as you enter the store to get through a turnstile. You then put away your phone and began shopping - picking up items, putting them in a basket or in bags (without needing to scan each item). You can just walk out when you're finished.

Quote

Amazon is using a combination of artificial intelligence, computer vision, and data pulled from multiple sensors to ensure customers are only charged for the stuff they pick up. Cameras are used to track items as they're taken from shelves.

if it's completely unmanned, then why was there someone stocking the shelf in the video?

Unmanned probably means...

“No Customer Service. Find It Yourself, After All We Haven’t Rearranged Every Thing Yet Today.”

No food for you unless you have an official, government-issued  vaccine passport and your social media traffic has been fact-checked by Facebook.

A nineteen-year-old multi-gendered, Marxist student that has a pet unicorn and wants you to die to stop global warming will determine your biological sex, race and voting record  to decide if you are worth feeding.

I agree.  I stopped using Amazon a couple of months ago because of Bezos left leaning ties and overarching reach into government.  Plus, he treats his employees like a disposable resource; forcing them to work harder at every review until they burnout and leave.

And that's going to happen.  A lot of people with those jobs will need to find something else to do.

Somebody is going to find a way to mess with that system. Amazon already suffers huge losses because people have nothing better to do than try to take advantage of them.

Awwwwww, my heart breaks for them.

There will be no jobs in the Amazon future.

Everything will be manufactured in China.

There will be a basic living dole for some, concentration, er, re-education  camps for others.

Luxury dachas and private islands for the few.
