Mrs.Cicero
In the ongoing saga of HOW I BECAME AN ANARCHIST specifically due to the scum sucking bastard bottom feeders at the Unemployment "Insurance" Agency who (after a fraudulent "Covid Unemployment" claim made by some cretinous douchebag that needs to die) have been insisting we pay them "restitution" (God, I hate that word even worse, now) of the $7500 they sent to the criminal, while we've been pointing out (fighting this) their idiocy and the fact that THEY NEVER PAID US JACK, for the last 8 months... yesterday I got yet another one of their threatening (we're going to take your Federal Income Tax Refund, State Tax Refund, Lottery Winnings, withhold any future unemployment compensation, GARNISH YOUR WAGES WITHOUT A COURT ORDER, and/or file a civil action against us in court. Today, I got the letter telling us that if they don't get the $7500 in full PLUS INTEREST (WTF!) in 30 days, they will garnish husband's wages (our only income, currently) to the tune of $2500 a month. Per the letter, THIS GARNISHMENT (done without a court order) IS NOT SUBJECT TO APPEAL. You can only prevent it by paying the amount in full plus interest, or by agreeing to pay 15% of your wages until the $7500 PLUS INTEREST is back in the corrupt assoholic gov't's coffers. So. There goes husband's credit rating. To say nothing of the MONEY WE DON'T OWE THEIR THIEVING ASSES. I HATE THIS STATE. I HATE IT'S GOVERNMENT. AND I THOROUGHLY HATE AND DESPISE EVERY ONE OF ITS OFFICIALS (LOOKING AT YOU WRETCHED GRETCHEN) and EMPLOYEES (THAT'S YOU, SUSAN "Incompetent twat" CORBIN ). THERE IS AN OPEN FRAUD INVESTIGATION ON THIS CLAIM, and yet, they are still going after us for money they are aware we dispute owing... WITH NO RECOURSE TO THE COURT FOR US - there is no way to fight their extortionate incompetence. My apologies for venting. There isn't anywhere else that's remotely anonymous that I can express my overwhelming contempt for the UIA and everyone there. 4
railfancwb
Have you a good working relationship with your state senator or Representative? If so, maybe ask them to intervene on your behalf. Often government bureaucracies pay more attention to facts presented by elected officials on behalf of constituents.

Oh, we've talked to the state rep. repeatedly. Her liaison with the UIA informed us that 1) there was an open fraud investigation on our claim, 2) they had all the info they needed 3) his wages wouldn't be garnished. And she also informed us at 80% of the Covid Unemployment Claims were fraudulent, and ALL of them had been paid by the state... meaning 1) they were utterly incompetent, and 2) it's going to take years to fix this, and 3) there are over 100,000 people in our same situation. We even have a lawyer. Not that that has helped, either, since the UIA tells them one thing, and then goes and does the opposite.

railfancwb
I wonder if elimination of civil service and returning to the spoils system for most government jobs wouldn’t be an improvement.

I think what we have is a spoils system. A merit system would be better, but it will never happen, because a certain portion of the population is too envious of the rewards that competent people would earn to ever allow it (looking at you, Democrats/Socialists/Communists/Lazy&Stupid People)

Speaking of spoils systems, what did AOC’s Democrat predecessor do to the party that they allowed him to be primaried out after twenty or so years?

I think it only works that way for some people - because I have a friend (a quite competent one, though) who worked in the Dept of the Interior during the Trump Admin, but who was promptly shoved out the day Bin Zhou took office. He was on a 2 year leave from his job here in order to take the DOI position, and he is scheduled to return in August - and is now scrambling for a job/income for the next 6 months because his return cannot be moved up. I'll have to research what AOC's predecessor is doing these days, you made me curious.

I have now fallen off the counter once and off the step stool once... I think the fumes are seriously messing with my balance. My physical balance. I understand though. After the first 10 years overseas, came back for a vacation. Asked my Dad, "What the hell happened?? You guys gave away America!!!" Came back after 10 more years, and he said to me, "You were right, and it's getting worse." Glad Dad's not alive to see what the democraps have done to America. I'm too old to leave again, otherwise, I'd be with my buddy and his wife in Costa Rica...
