They did that in case a German supercar overtook them. It would be any Frog's instinct to take a hard-right into the bushes. The offroad suspension reduces the chances of damage when it goes over the curb.

The car looks good from the side and back and the nose looks better in black, but that is a hell of a Beak they saddled that poor car with. Alfa Romeo insists on putting that  grille design on every car they build, no matter how wildly out of place it may be. Branding is important, but damn.

Branding....Not so important to the new BMW's   They sure f'ed them up with the new grilles

I really like this old boat, but the automotive designers were really running amok with the chrome trim by the end of the fifties, weren't they? Look at the back end of this old girl.

The front of that Edsel station wagon hints at 1970s Dodge and Pontiac designs, doesn't it?

Dating Edsels is easy.

The marque was in business for a whole two years and at least they got rid of the infamous 'horse collar' front detail by 1960.

I confess that I do not believe that the Edsel automobiles were the definition of ugly American iron.

Other makes of the same period (1958 - 1960) were as ugly and some even uglier.

NB that station wagon model is the Villager.
