The problem with care for the elderly is similar to the problem with, incarcerating criminals, it is similar to care facilities for the mentally ill, which in turn is a similar to the problem of care for underdeveloped children and adults.  The common problem is MONEY.  No body wants to piss away money on people that cannot give you something back.  Nobody wants to spend money on people that can't improve your life or your income. 

Money that would be spent from the public treasury on the aforementioned groups needing care, is believed instead, to be money that could be spent on the population to make their lives easier.  It's money that politicians can spend on voters to buy votes by giving out "free stuff" in return.  It's money that could be spent to make us personally happier in the moment.

It's money that could be used to increase and grow the government bureaucracy (which is it real goal of a bureaucracy) thereby increasing the authority of the department heads and their income.  Department heads in a bureaucracy are paid related to how many people they oversee.  Kind of how the plantation Overseers was paid in the old days.  People, that is society, government, politicians, even the guy next door, don't want to spend money on something that they can't see that won't  improve their own life style.   

So we let criminals out of prisons on the claim that prisons are overcrowded, because we won't spend money on more prisons. So we closed the mental health facilities because it was inhumane to incarcerate people unable to control themselves because we won't spend money on more facilities , So we close care facilities for the homeless on the claim that it's abridging their freedom of movement, but rally because we won't spend money on more facilities. 

We even want government to permit and pay for killing newborns because the time, cost and effort, to raise them into adults cost too much time and money, and is an inconvenience.  Much the same as using protection against pregnancy is too much of an inconvenience. 

Now the response to most of these groups needing care, is to turn to the police department.  Law enforcement's only prerogative is to charge them with a crime and send them to prison where our prevailing obsession with cost reduction and redistribution of the wealth, says we must let them out of prison due to the cost. 

See!  Money makes the world go around.  Not the goodness of people's hearts and not the desire of politicians to solve problems.  The only thing that people value is money, not each other and certainly not empathy and compassion.

All that's true, Jan, but I plan to use accusation of ageism as an orc-hammer against any liberal who disagrees with me on FB. Teach the little bastages.
