F14Scott
Beautiful! Travel experience is something that I'm glad people I love and respect get to have. One question- Surgical shoe covers...?The site is private property, and the owners grant/sell the tour company permission to land. One of their conditions is the booties, to reduce the possibility of foreign seeds and plants being introduced to the local flora. Maui has a completely different feel, for instance, than Oahu, much less crowded, more exclusive, more relaxed, less built up. Kauai is even more so. Hit one of them for the second half of your stay to relax and recover after wearing yourself out at the standard (but necessary to see, once) Honolulu stuff. On Maui, Hertz rented me a brand spanking new Camaro SS convertible (450 hp) for Get a mai tai from Monkey Pod. It was the best one we found, and we "interviewed" a lot... Their Ahi Tuna melt was also memorably delicious. But the most dramatic thing I saw on Maui was the 3D humpback whale IMAX at the Maui Ocean Center. The 3D tech was incredible; all our senses were fooled, and we felt like we were in the water with full-sized whales swimming just feet from us. Just blew our minds. Nice little conservation zoo/park, too, but that movie was dynamite. https://mauioceancenter.com/humpbacks-of-hawaii/ Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk X 2 regarding Monkey Pod's Mai Tais. Have been to Hawaii maybe 8x. No Mai Tai better than Monkey Pod's. They have three locations: https://www.monkeypodkitchen.com/. Delicious food, too. I've only been to the one in Wailea on Maui. Also, if you like horseback riding, this was the best we found: http://www.golf-maui.com/Activities/AdventuresHorseback.htm. GREAT outing. NOT a trail ride, but real riding. Swam in a waterfall. Picnic lunch. Outstanding. Book early. If you're going to be cooking in Maui, this place has wonderful fresh fish: https://eskimocandy.com/. Also, a great place for lunch. Nothing fancy, just fresh and delicious. The Kea Lani Hotel in Wailea also has a Don's Fishmarket (there's one in Chicago), which is excellent. If you're upcountry on Haleakala, the most famous restaurant probably is Hali'imaile General Store: https://hgsmaui.com/. Delicious. Also, it might seem a little cheesy, but it's also a very nice introduction to Hawai'i. You can arrange to have you and your wife greeted at the airport by "Lei women" who will give you a warm welcome with charming smiles, and then drape leis around your necks. Tuberose double leis are popular, beautiful, and have a wonderful fragrance to them. Have a great time. P.S. One word of caution of you plan to snorkel or scuba dive: BE AWARE OF RECENT SHARK ATTACKS AROUND THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS. Talk to the local experts. There has been a problem with tiger sharks in recent years. A gentlemen in his 60s was killed just last week. BillKilgore
My wife and I drove around the windward side of the island. I think we took highway 63 to 83, then 99 back to Honolulu. I would highly recommend the trip. It was great to see the less touristy side of the island. I would also recommend a stop at Waimea Falls Park. There is a large pond under a waterfall where you can swim.
