Akhio Sled. Come on snow.

I just scored a 1980s, unused military Akhio sled. Perfect condition. Just no harnesses. I will need to make some. I've wanted one for years. Snowshoeing will take on a whole new dimension this year. I'll finally be able to haul my big cameras. 

 

Anyone else into backcountry winter sports?

Used to snowmobile the hills of Methow valley, years ago. Lots of fun, but can be dangerous too.

Helped dig a 17yr old out of a tree well, dead from avalanche. Use a beacon.

I'd love to get back into sledding, but $$$$$.

An Akhio is a military sled you pull behind skis or snowshoes. I can go to places that are off limits to snowmobiles. I got one that was never issued. There were tons of them dumped in Utah.

I remember being "introduced" to those things at MWTC Pickle Meadows... no fun pulling it. Also remember loving snowshoes and hating skis... was possibly the worst skier in the regiment ?

You need a APC to pull it, much easier!

Use to use APC with sleds in a double train.

Did the summer package at MWTC. The Royal Marines and French Foreign Legion sent guys through the same session. Fun summer.
