I only reload 9 mm and 22-250. I have found that for ME I buy my bullets at Bass Pro. I have checked out numerous sites and I have found Berry's 124 gn. RN for $26. something for 250 rds. is about the best I can find. Once you add in shipping it's not worth it to buy from anybody else. They even have given me a gold card membership thinggy which has given me at times half off of the cost of the Berry's bullets. How do you pass up that, you can't beat it.

Bass Pro: 250 for $25.99 x 4 = $103.96 + about 8% sales tax = $112.28

Wideners.com: 1,000 for $72.50 + $16.00 for shipping = $88.50

Savings: $23.78

Hornady XTP is a pretty accurate bullet, but buying them 100/box isn't all that cheap.

And there are other Hornady bullets just as accurate than their XTP and when bought in bulk will scratch your itch for loading 9mm match ammo.

I suppose it depends on the quantity of shooting you do per caliber, and the value of your time. 10 years ago I would normally run 500 rnds of 9mm a week. it was cost effective for me to reload single stage with used equipment and brass. Especially considering the price of ammo and availability cause by the political climate. Nowadays I'm lucky to shoot 500 rnds a year and it does not pay to reload for me at the moment. Yet I still do......oh the sickness reloading is.

Reloading 9mm ammo is an on again/off again proposition for me. In good times when ammo is relative cheep I do not reload 9mm. However, if the wrong people are in office and prices go up, or in the case of .22 LR ammo is just plain no longer available, I get out the 9mm dies, cast some bullets and start reloading again. 9mm for me, replaced .22 LR when I couldn't get any. Now, I have the 9mm dies in storage again.

A few years ago, backed off 45s, and now load much more 9. A favorite is SNS 135gr RN over VV N320. Burns pretty clean, accurate, and recoil is on the softer side.

I've got a 550B, but if I had to use a single stage, figure it'd still be worth it... would just have to find a lot more spare time

I have been loading Montana Gold 115 grain JHP. I haven't had to order in a couple of years because I hardly ever shoot 9mm. I just looked and 1,000 are $127.00 shipped to your door. That drops you down to .127 per, add in some once fired brass, a primer and powder, its pretty cheap to reload.

Lead will get your costs down, there all those coated lead bullets that fall somewhere in between (don't shoot em so I don't know too much about them).

No matter how you "skin the cat" you have to buy in bulk to make the numbers work. I know its hard sometimes, but save a few bucks buy a few thousand at once and then your ahead. Maybe split a case with a buddy. Then take a few bucks every week and put it in a coffee can under the reloading bench. When your halfway through that case, you'll have a stash to reorder. Best part for me is the Mrs. never ever enters the reloading room and hates coffee, so the money is safe! :xD:
