You talking the entire firearm, metal and wood or just the wood?

Good question.

I had some flooding in my basement last summer, and a slight rust film was starting up on a few of my wall hangers.  I scrubbed them down with Hoppe's #9, let them sit overnight, them wiped them down, and I was pretty much good.  On some of the older guns with already thin blueing, I rubbed them down with a little Oxpho Blue, and I'm good to go.

Did you "scrub them down" using a cloth or 0000 steel wool?

Are there any decent places for refinishing firearms for not a lot of money?

I assume you are talking about blued gun metal.  What kind of condition are you talking about; Is the blue worn off? Does the metal have surface rust only?  Is there any heavy pitting?  What type of gun is it and is it just a shooter or a collector?

It depended on the gun and condition.  I’d paint them down with Hoppe’s #9 and let them sit overnight.  The next day, I’d wipe them down with an old bath towel.  That usually got all or most of it.  There were a few spots I’d have to use #0000 steel wool.
