Well, when faced with an unarmed response, it certainly beats doing nothing, and throwing, then charging is got more chance of survival than bending over and kissing your . . .?.

At leas the chief is proposing a more valid reaction than the usual “run, hide, get shot” college teaching bull****.

Think the Chief would be willing to engage the shooter armed with only a hockey puck?  Hardly.

Think the Chief would want his son or daughter to engage a madman with an "Assault" rifle armed with government issued hockey pucks?  Hardly.

Since guns aren’t allowed on campus, he’s going for the something is better than nothing option, and actually got the admin to go along with it.  Which is  a miracle in itself, and the point of my post.

This.  They won't get approvals for guns quickly.  Hockey pucks/box of rocks/baseball bats sound stupid but they beat the hell out of nothing.

So rather than a box of rocks in each classroom (which would be a whole lot cheaper) they decide that 2500 hockey pucks is an efficient use of taxpayer funds.

Pucks are like a kinder, gentler rock.  They are made of hard rubber and have rounded edges.

(But they do have a nice heft to them that would produce a serious, and probable lifesaving,  "OW!")

But, but -- I thought we were supposed to use the blunted safety scissors in case of attack.

Not when you get hit by them off of someone's slap shot.

Big owie.

Sure.  Everyone will stand up to a shooter and throw stuff at them.  A few, doing this, is like poking a Bear, it will get their attention.

Most people/kids are not going to stand up to a firearm and throw things.  The fight or flight, will tell them that to be exposed with minimal response is not a good thing.  In actuality they will try to run and hide, same as before.   Even in battle, everyone with a firearm isn't a hero.  An occasional unarmed hero is another casualty.

This is the same as the old schools in years past teaching "duck and cover".  We all knew it was a "feel good move", and would accomplish nothing.  If trained responders wouldn't use this technique, how good is it for untrained victims facing violent harm...……...

Yeah, an owie. But a rock can knock you out and might even produce a wound that will require stitches.  Bigger owie.

Teachers get treated like hospital employees it seems. Write policies and procedures and give supplies so staff are kept busy doing idiotic stuff till the emergency incapacitates them. Give them really useful items and using them might cause a lawsuit. But dying innocently costs the insurance company less.

Probably throw more consistently.  They may also have some extras laying around.

Personally I'd go with baseballs.  But that's just me.
