Suspect Unknown
I read on another forum that the Mexicans take a dump in the fields where they work. That would explain a lot of organisms, like e. coli.
kerbie18
When I get the salad at Chipotle at least once a week, it's made with romaine lettuce. How long do I have to live?

That would explain a lot of organisms, like e. coli. My folks winter in Yuma, AZ where the last huge E. Coli outbreak originated from. The CDC traced the outbreak there and found the same genetic strain in the canal water, which farmers draw water from to irrigate the crops. Likely not Jose dropping a duece. https://www.cdc.gov/ecoli/2018/o157h7-04-18/index.html The FDA and state and local regulatory officials traced the romaine lettuce to many farms in the Yuma growing region. The FDA, along with CDC and state partners, started an environmental assessment in the Yuma growing region and collected samples of water, soil, and manure. CDC laboratory testing identified the outbreak strain of E. coli O157:H7 in water samples taken from a canal in the Yuma growing region. WGS showed that the E. coliO157:H7 found in the canal water is closely related genetically to the E. coli O157:H7 from ill people. Laboratory testing for other environmental samples is continuing. FDA is continuing to investigate to learn more about how the E. coli bacteria could have entered the water and ways this water could have contaminated romaine lettuce in the region. I drove by those fields all the time and the porta-potty trailer was always present. Another sad indicator how America is devolving into 3rd world status is that the CDC still hasn't figured out how **** got into the canal. Nearly 6 months later and they can't, or won't, identify the source? Give me some sample bottles, hip waders, and a week and I'll have isolated the source of the contamination by simply taking samples below and above likely contamination spots and testing for the presence of the strain. Could possibly be due to one major instance of contamination, such as a bank of farm worker's porta-pottys being emptied into the canal by someone too lazy or too cheap to take them to the station. tadbart
Lock the borders down. Tighten the purse strings for the gimmedats. The "jobs nobody else will do" will suddenly fill. And alas, people will quit shitting in irrigation water.

tadbart
I had lunch with a lady who works as an epidemiologist for the CDC. It was neat hearing her talk about the detective work that goes into finding patterns from reportable diseases, going to people's homes, noting common things between victims, even collecting stool samples and water samples. Like, real science stuff.

If the porta potty can be dumped into the canal, then that means that it is a easily repeatable thing, even if it is just some nasty carload of kids doing it: that is not a comfortable thought. Because it guarantees outbreaks, and there is no way to stop it. 17 hours ago, Walt Longmire said: Pretty sure that's very common. They likely wipe with their hand and don't wash afterwards. America is regressing with sanitation, and nasty habits have become common, I think. 16 hours ago, TBO said: It's just ecoli, man. Sent from my Jack boot using Copatalk YEAH! It is just e coli, or the plague, or some other nastiness. I hear that San Francisco is letting people crap on the streets, without arrest. America is becoming like India, slowly but surely.
