Second one Looks a little like the days of the Iron Lung.  I remember many of my neighborhood kid friends going away and never coming back.  Each Summer was a little intimidating, not knowing who would be next.

A Twenty mule Team in "Death Valley" ca. 1886

Twenty-mule teams were actually teams of eighteen mules and two horses attached to large wagons that hauled the borax from the mines to the closest railhead
Borax was commonly used during the 19th century for laundry and other cleaning purposes.

Damn near looks like one of the ads for 20 Mule Team Borax.  They had many commercials back in the day for Boraxo.
