ranger99
I spend a lot of time hunting and fishing, so I have a lot of camping gear for the various types of camping I do. So for car camping I either rack out in my campershell or I use this Marmot Limelight 3-man tent (it's the grey and orange one). This is my Hennessy Hammock. I use this when I'm going to hike a few miles before setting up camp. This thing is great when the weather's decent, it's more comfortable than an ultra-lightweight one-man tent, and all I need is trees; no level ground required. Some mustangs that showed up one morning while we were making coffee in WY A friend I made last year, Fredd-O. Fredd-O followed me and my buddy around this canyon lake for the three days we were there fishing. He's a young bald eagle that made his home near a lake on the Mogollon Rim here in AZ. Here's a shot of my buddy and I climbing out of Chevelon Canyon lake after a four day hike-in fishing trip. I'm the one to the lower left. A pic of a big buck rainbow I caught a couple years ago. 28 inches, maybe 7-8 lbs. Unfortunately, most of my camping pics are on photobucket, so I can't post them here yet. So no pics of my hunting photos, most of my fishing pics, su per lightweight chairs, tables, stoves, etc. Edited September 20, 2017 by ranger99

ranger99
I got nearly all of my gear on sale/clearance, mostly about 40% off or more. Sierra Trading Post is a great site for finding brand-new quality gear on clearance. Also Cabela's Bargain Cave, though it's not as user-friendly. Military surplus stores. Even REI has several annual clearance sales; you just have to do a bit of research to find out if the sale stuff is worth it or not.

ranger99
Yes, hammocks can be used in colder weather. I've used mine in temps as low as 10 degrees F. But over the years I found that the virtues of my hammock (lightweight, compact size) begin to be offset by all the extra stuff I have to carry when temps drop below 40 degrees. At around 30-35 degrees and below it's just easier to pack my ultra-lightweight one-man tent. Nice set-up by the way. That kayak tent looks pretty cool. Though I'd probably flip the thing during the night; I sometimes roll over kinda suddenly. Edited September 21, 2017 by ranger99

Thanks, the laws here in TX about legal camping places on the rivers can get a little cloudy, so I have experimented with lots of "solutions". I will say setting camp up on a kayak should be done in water less than knee deep and with a knife sheathed on your chest! It is as stable as the foundation, the ride 115 is stable enough to sleep on, the tarpons not so much, ask me how I know! I have also found with the right gear no matter how cold it gets the weighs are about the same tent vs hammock, but trees aren't always where you need them! One more kayak setup, it is hard to tell, but the hammock was over the water. Edited September 22, 2017 by Old Buzzard spelling.

Would love to do it but planning is a pain in the ass due to that reason. Too much private property along the river.

I have done the Devils River a few times, but before they made the roadside at 163 a natural area and you have to get a permit I haven't been back. The Pecos will be my next big trip that direction. Here are a couple of pics from the devils.

AK_Stick
We use an Arctic Oven AO12 designed for winter camping (been to -40 with no wind) and a Cabelas Instinct Outfitter. Haul it in in a trailer behind the wheelers.
Vanniek71
I have an OLD 94 pop up I got for $700. I’ve drug this thing to hell and back. Keeps me warm and dry for hunting and I’ve rigged a small free standing AC to fit in it in the summer. Since I do a lot of very remote camping the size is perfect to drag up a mountain, and I’ve got a Mr Buddy heater rigged to work off the 20# propane bottles for cold weather.

Gonzoso
I used to mostly hammock camp or use an rei half dome 2 tent as I camped via kayak, canoe, or motorcycle solo or with 1 other person. I recently got the Cabela’s outback lodge 8 person tent. At 12x12 feet it should be adequate for my family. I got it on sale for 250$ and got it delivered Saturday. Haven’t used it yet. Not my pics btw Edited July 3, 2018 by Gonzoso
PNWguy
I have an old pop-up that I got for $100 that I tinker with. Took it camping about three months ago and it got down to 20 degrees. No heater, so it got a bit cold. Edited July 4, 2018 by PNWguy
PNWguy
Went camping two weeks ago and just brought a tent. I have a nice cot, air mattress, and good bag, so I am very comfortable camping in just a tent. The tent is just a cheap Coleman from WalMart, and it rained heavy with thunder and lightning all night, but I stayed dry and was just fine...

PNWguy
My old Ford dealership down in Prescott, AZ is also an RV dealership, so one day while getting my car's oil changed, I decided to explore the RVs. They had everything from the pop-ups to the R-Pods and the luxury 5th wheels. I really, really liked the R-Pods, but could not believe they wanted $22k for a tiny 16' basic RV with a funky shape and big tires. And I was amazed at the luxury of the 5th wheels. The one I liked was "only" $50k but had double slide-outs in the back that made a 14'x16' living and dining area with a 6-place cherry dining room table, leather couch, gas fireplace, and 50" flat screen TV that lowered into a cabinet. It had granite counter tops, a queen-sized bed, double sinks, etc. It was nicer than any house I've ever owned.
crockett
Camping is a developing interest on my end. As soon as I'm out of my HOA restricted neighborhood I will get a 5th wheel. Got the diesel rig with 5th wheel prep... I keep coming back to a Highland LF297RLS. Really like the floor plan, plenty of room for me.
