I have carried the Gold Dot 135g+P short barrel load since they came out.  Out of an airweight they are pretty stout, but manageable.

Before that I carried 158g LSWCHP. Also pretty stout recoil wise. Comes in second place to the Gold Dots, but still a good choice.

If I couldn’t have one of those two I’d try to dig up some Nyclads. They were pretty soft shooting out of the snubs.

I have also gone to the Gold Dot 135s. Engineered specifically for the snub revolver. Prior to finding those, I carried the Golden Saber 125 +P. They seem to test well but don't have the same track record on the street (to my knowledge).

The old FBI load by Underwood or Buffalo Bore may have the most history behind it. If recoil is an issue, I would also go with a wad cutter. I prefer medium to heavy weight projectiles in 38 Special.
