fortyofforty
When I look at the grips of a Smith & Wesson revolver, I often wonder what exactly is square about a square butt, and what is round about a round butt? All the grips seem to be round in some ways, more or less. Can you explain and show me what is square in a square butt revolver?
Citra47
Remove the screw in the grip material and take that off the frame. Looked at from the side, the revolver's metal grip frame will either be fairly squared off at the bottom or rounded. Some people prefer one or the other. The rounded grip frame will fit smaller hands much better than the squared grip in medium to large frame revolvers. Sorry, too computer stupid to print pictures. gwalchmai
Yep, it's obvious with the stocks removed. I like round butts better, but I cannot lie - I have more square butts. Anyway, this graphic may help: Oh, wait, not that one. Take a look at this:
fortyofforty
Thanks for the video. It was a little like the Supreme Court's description of pornography, I could tell it when I saw it but could not clearly define it. I knew my Model 29 was square butt, and my model 13 three inch was round butt, but could not have exactly said "why". I'm a fan of round butts, too, but they are exceedingly rare around here. Moeman
I know with good kitchen knives square is better, cause if one is cutting thru something tuff less chance of less change of a twist and cutting yourself. With guns only my 44 mag guns does the grip mean a lot. I can adjust to lessor calibers.as for girls buts as illustrated above, heart pear for the win. geeorge
It used to be on a S&W Wesson revolver that 3in barrel and smaller was a round butt and 4in and longer was a square butt.

Jason D
I kind of despise round butt guns just a bit. I would much rather have a square butt and be able to use standard target grips, versus a round to square conversion grip.
