Isn't it absolutely astounding!  And those foolish ones among us think we can control mother nature.  Arrogant fools.

We are here at Nature's convenience.  When it isn't convenient anymore, we will cease to exist.

".....As a river curves to follow the terrain silt carried in the current is deposited on the inner edge of the curve because the current is slower. The fast current at the outer edge of the curve erodes the river bank and tends to widen the river at this point.

Silt deposited on the inner curve section builds up to form a beach. The effect shifts the river very slowly in the direction of the eroded bank. Silt from the eroded bank travels on to be deposited at the next curve and so the river starts to meander...."  https://www.answers.com/Q/What_causes_a_river_to_start_meandering

Secretariat running the Preakness Stakes.  It's been 46 years and he still holds the records for all three Triple Crown races; the fastest Kentucky Derby, the fastest Preakness and the fastest Belmont Stakes.

Fwiw, Easy Goer finished the Belmont in 2:26 flat in 1989 and that's the closest anyone has come to Secretariat's 2:24 flat.
