I thought so! We always see that lawn on the way to shoup park

How cool, what a small world

Yup.  Grew up in that small section of Palo Alto tucked behind San Antonio and El Camino.  Graduated from Los Altos High School in 1975.  Spent many a weekend evening in Shoup park growing up.

I was weaned at (the then new) Sunnyvale Rod and Gun Club, but it gets very crowded now, so I mainly pop into Reeds Indoor Range at opening time on weekdays.  It's closer to my current San Jose dwelling anyhow.

And, yes it's true, there used to be lots of orchards here.  I have a friend who's parents grew up here and used to work in the fruit canneries for summer jobs.

Notice any changes in this photo?  Foothill expressway was probably still a railroad track right of way at that time (thus the island with a tree in it).  No cars newer than a 62 Corvair, so that dates it.
