Many German POWs were held in Brigham City Utah. They worked the farms to feed the local population including the POW camp. Some with special skills volunteered to to work in military industries to help the US against Hitler. Mostly aircraft repair and a parachute factory.

They were given evening passes and cash to go into town to see movies, go dancing and eat. Many applied for asylum and never went back. I knew one when I was a kid. Erwin Bodie.

They were just kids forced into the army. Forced to become party members. And disgusted that their parents generation allowed Hitler to come to power.

Burned down by a crackhead...

On January 16, 2012, a fire was reported at the top of the Senator tree, which burned from the inside out, "like a chimney." Firefighters arrived to try to extinguish the blaze, but the tree collapsed.

Florida police arrest woman in arson fire that destroyed 3,500-year-old tree, known as 'The Senator' ... The hollow tree burned for more than three hours from inside out, creating a chimney effect, before collapsing.

“Full faith and confidence of the United States” not so much.

I find myself identifying with the filthy hippies of the 60’s and the actual filthy hippies find themselves in the role of fascist they rebelled against.
