NPTim
.58 miné ball?

It is only a couple of mm smaller than the diameter of that quarter, which is around 24mm, or just shy of an inch. The projectile weighs almost 3 ounces.
OldDad
That's not a bullet. It's a stirrup cup!

Maser
Stopping rifle slug. Probably 4 or 6 gauge. Edited April 6, 2021 by Maser
LostinTexas
~24mm would be 95 caliber. Maybe an 80 cal musket? Seems the British used a 62 or 69 cal for some time in the day. 10Ga slug is ~.775. Just over 19.5 mm It will be interesting if someone comes upi with a real answer, and not just a guess. Wyzz Kydd
I bet that's a .69 caliber Minie bullet. Those look like Tamisier grooves. .69 cailber would be about 18 mm.

Never shot a flanged ball like that. Could have been from one of the big game muzzle load rifles. Those went up to 1 inch. I would like to know the exact diameter and weight. Fog
I've seen guys shoot stuff like that from homemade cannons. I have not idea if that that is what it's for, they made custom molds and everything was pretty much set up for each individual cannon.

This bulletin is almost exactly 8-gauge(.835”). It may well be an 8-gauge shotgun slug.
