I went all in last Thursday.

That was my fault though, I knew the ice was thin there.

I went in during my jumping from ice floe to ice floe along the edge of the river on the way home.  I was warned that I would be punished for playing near the Mississippi river on my way home from school.  I went in and swam to an opening in the ice to get out.

That was my fault though, I knew the ice was thin along the edges of the river in the spring.

The second time I pulled a dog out of  the river while on my way home from grade school.  He couldn't get out because his paws kept slipping on the ice.  I laid out on the ice and grabbed his front paws to pull him out.  I got wet but so wet that my family didn't know I was soaked.

In the first case I knew my father would kill me if he knew I went into the river in the spring so I never told him.  The second I didn't care since the dog couldn't get up on the ice to get out and I couldn't let him drown.  I just couldn't.
