I have heard that before but it does not really make sense if it was ever designed to be a test.  If they don't know what the text is already how would it know you are not giving them a false answer.

There were typically two chunks of text to type, in reCaptcha. One was fairly legible and the other much less so. I assume that they had a pass/fail value assigned to the more legible of the two and the other one was the one that needed solvIng. I imagine that answers for the second one got databased and they waited for a consensus of its meaning to emerge. Just guessing, but it makes sense.

 read the constitution

Will people be unable to read the Constitution, or documents such as the Bill of Rights, census records, or letters from the past?

If you can't read it, what value will it have to  you.

This one document alone should be the justification for cursive!

Will create a new job specialist - “translator” of cursive. Lots of old wills and property deeds and contracts written in cursive.
