HELP! Android text message porn

My mother has an android phone and has been receiving texts that when she opens them contain explicit porn.

I know nothing about android, and have never even heard of getting unsolicited porn in the form of text messages. I am not surprised it exists, I have just never see it and am looking for suggestions to give my mother on how to stop this.

What I would really like is to find the source and kick somebody's perverted ass, but I know the point of origin is impossible to find.

Does anyone here have any suggestions of what I can do to help her with this?

Are they all coming from the same number?

She should be able block the source by going to the upper right and opening the menu, there should be an option to block the number.  Anyway that's the way my Galaxy works.  Now it could be more complicated if the sender is real clever.

Not meaning to sound like too much of a jackass here, but why not just advise her not to read texts from numbers she don't recognize.

You are not coming off like a jackass, It is a logical thing to do except for the fact that she is the secretary at her church and has to take calls from new member who's numbers she may not yet have

I do need to get her to pay closer attention to the text previews before she clicks them. I assume Anroid previews enough a a text to see when it has a graphic or a link?

I guess what I was hoping was that there was some magical app that looked for key words in a text and would flag them as junk.

Janice6, does Blacklist do that by any chance.

With an Android you can block the number at least for phone calls. Not sure if it works for text messages.

If by chance there is some sort of "homing virus" on the phone that allows to be a receiver, you might try wiping the phone and reload the OS. Be sure to back up any important data first. YMMV.

NO.  But it is very good at simply blocking numbers.  When I get a text message I do read it to make sure it isn't from some business I am dealing with.  If I see it's SPAM, I block it.

It may be possible to get viruses via text messages, but I believe it would have to be in a referred video.  I have never gotten a virus from text messaging myself or my wife.

If it comes to that, I will have to find someone out there to do it for her, or fly out for a visit and do it myself.

Every day, it seems that I find another reason to hate smart phones.

My wife is right here with me and she will answer and not hang up to any SPAM call on either the home phone or her cell phone.  Some just don't believe people can be such A-holes as they are abusing the phone communications systems.

My wife will use her tablet to go on Facebook, but then tell me she doesn't know how to use a computer.  You are not alone!
