We have always been told about the ‘5 beans in the wheel’ loading 5 and lowering the hammer on an empty chamber. But there was also another way. if you were sticking your gun in your waist like a Vaquero with a sash or a belt, you opened the loading gate to use for a hook. it can’t fire if the gate is open, and if you had to draw.
