Walt Longmire
Did not kill a goat. Saw lots of them, just couldn't close the gap. Thousands of Ptarmigan. 6 bears. A wolverine. Walked on the glacier. Used some multi thousands of years old ice in my Crown Royal drink. Flew in with a beautiful female bush pilot. Fun times with young friends. Been to this place many times. It never gets old. Weather was crap at first. Rain and high winds. Nice days afterwards. Already planning next years trip. 5

Walt Longmire
I have flown in and hunted here 6 times since the late 1980's. Hopefully I get to go back a few more times. Have taken Boone and Crocket goats in the past from this unit.

Walt Longmire
The rifle is a Winchester model 70 Classic control round feed in .300 Winchester Magnum. Has a 26" barrel with a custom crown. Leopold scope is a 6.5x20. I have taken moose, caribou, and bears with it. Mostly shoot 165 grain Speer boat tails or 165 Barnes X bullets. Sighted in for dead on at 300 yards.
tadbart
Thanks for sharing your adventures with us! Glad you returned safely, even if ya didn't have to pack a goat out. He'll just grow bigger for next year.

Don't you know what kind of rifle you need for a fancy goat hunt in Alaska? At least that's the consensus of the majority of out of state hunters I see roaming the woods in search of elk around here... Beautiful country! Would love to visit Alaska some day. My dad has been there hundreds of times and has TWO Grand Slams to his credit. Here's one of them...

When I need the one with the fluted and ported barrel, I take my Weatherby Accumark in .30-378
