SC Tiger
I put together the following load based off of a reloading manual I've had for at least 18 years: .40 S&W Caliber Bullet - Speer 165 gr TMJ Powder Charge - 6.4 gr Unique (manual said between 6.2 and 7.2) Primer - CCI 500 Small Pistol 1.120" OAL, light crimp Anyway - per the manual I thought this would be a bit of a "mouse fart" load (said something about this approximates a ".40 light" or something) but based on some of what I am seeing this might actually be a bit scary. Does this seem like a sane load? I've seen postings where people advise 6 gr behind a similar bullet. I'm going for a practice/plinking round, not an SD. I've also been told that going below the minimum charge can cause scary results. I've reloaded before - mainly .357 and .44 but this is my first foray into .40 or semi-auto at all. These will be shot in a Glock 22. So I'm a bit nervous. I guess I need someone to just pat my head and tell me not to worry. minervadoe
Your proposed load is bad mojo. For a 165 grain TMJ, Lyman's 50th edition Reloading Handbook max's out at 6.0 grains of Unique . They say 5.4 grains Unique = 952 fps ..... 19,300 C.U.P. 6.0 grains Unique = 1034 fps .... 21,700 C.U.P.
norton
This is one of the reasons experienced reloaders tell you to consult more then one load manual. Also keep an up to date manual for cross reference.
