Administrators Eric Posted September 25, 2017 Author Administrators Share Posted September 25, 2017 The British Mosquito was one of the fastest fighters of WWII. It was fitted with two of the same RR Merlin engines that powered the Spitfire. The frame of the aircraft was a unique and well engineered plywood laminate design, that made it strong and very light. The English were short on just about everything, at that point in the war, and they needed to be able to create usable aircraft with materials they had on hand. The Mosquito was born. Due to the powerful engines and lightweight construction, it was very fast and maneuverable. The Germans were impressed enough with its design that they launch a program to build their own version of the mosquito. Their program did not meet expectations and was ultimately cancelled. The Mosquito was used for a wide variety of purposes and became one of the most successful aircraft Britain produced during the war.

Administrators Eric Posted September 25, 2017 Author Administrators Share Posted September 25, 2017 Here is a video of a mosquito and a P-38 Lightning, at an airshow. It is interesting how the two very different engine sounds blend together.
