Those were great days in IMSA racing.

It's mid-1980s.

Ferrari had pretty much disappeared from GTP racing.

The Porsche 962, the grandson of the awesome 917, was seemingly unbeatable.

And then along came Datsun with the ZX. and there was racing again.

If I recall, Jaguar was also in the mix with some great cars.

Do the modern copper colored zinc pennies work as well as classic pure copper ones? And what about the steel pennies from WWII (1943?)?

If it fits, it runs.  The lower conductivity causes increased heating, but the large bulk of the material keeps the current density down, so it's a wash.

One day long ago I got a call from my BIL about a job applicant.  This person said he worked for my company as an engineer in the same Research department as I did.  He was now applying for a job as a Nuclear Power Plant Control Operator at the Nuke plant where my BIL was a Control Operator.  He said he had a degree in Nuclear Power Engineering from (IIRC) Pakistan.

My BIL said he had a bad feeling about this guy and wanted to check on his credentials.  I told him this person worked as a technician in our department and was let go because of his lack of any technical knowledge that he had claimed to have when applying with us.  He couldn't do even basic laboratory work reliably.

He thanked me for my being candid, and told me he would call me back.  A few days later he called back and said that upon further checking, this fellow had a two year "degree" from a training or a trade school,  I forget in what.  But he did not have a degree, and knew nothing of Nuclear Power Engineering.

He said further, that they had a history of receiving applications from this part of the world claiming to be one thing or another, and they had never found one of these applicants that actually held any credentials they had claimed to have.

He said his company now was very skeptical of these citizens since they had a propensity to make erroneous claims on their applications all the time.

When zinc pennies were new,  we'd hold them over the gas-burners with Mom's hotdog tongs,  and then drop them on the floor to watch them splat.

Then we'd carry them around in our pockets,  like we were cool.

And use the hotdog tongs to hold marbles over the burners.

And then drop them in cold water to hear them "crack".  Into a shattered globe.

Then if you dropped them on the floor,  they'd bust into a hundred pieces.

And then Mom would get pissed because there were little pieces of colored glass all over the place.

But we didn't know anything about it.

The Jags were the loudest cars on the track. In an event full of loud cars, the Jags were like a buzz saw to the eardrums. I think the 4.3L Turbo Vette GTP cars sounded the best, but the Nissan cars were damned hard to beat.

Every glovebox (what do they call them now?) or visor had a pencil in it.

So you could rewind the cassette when it went spaghetti all over.

Or a matchbook to put under the 8 track

In college, we had a one-bedroom apartment, with, like, nine guys living in it.

We had one 8-track player.

And one 8-track tape.

Which played constantly, 24/7.

So, every time Led Zeppelin's Time came on, every 40 minutes, all night long, you just kind of rolled with it.  Bells, and all.

It never stopped.

We went to see the movie when it first came out.

The first twenty rows were going berserk, for an hour, before it even started.

We were in the non-berserk section, I guess.

The instant the movie started,  the whole place exploded into a frenzy of stoned exuberance!

About twenty seconds later,  as the movie erupted into your face,

all the stoners were instantly dumbed silent.

For the whole rest of the movie.  Not a peep.

RHPS college girls are the best.

I forget how many times I have seen that movie.  I love it, it's hilarious.
